I am up and dressed, but no one else is. I was hoping we would all goto church today but this is not likely the case. I suppose I’ll have to wait ’til Piglette and Mike’s wedding to see Pastor Steve’s church.

So anyway, now I’m just doing some web surfing. I found this reading list in my email: The Best Spiritual Books of 2007 (So Far) which led me to look around at Amazon fro more books (as if I don’t have enough books LOL !) Here is a list of lists of interesting books:

saturday afternoon…

Sweetous and I are visiting Mike and Piglette this weekend. We drove up yesterday and then went to the Grange Fair and stayed til 10:00 pm. I was wore out ’cause it’s so hot. We’re going again this evening too. Idle hands are the Devil’s work shop; this proved to be true today. We were lounging around the house and Sweetous and Piglette decided we should all get our nails done ! So we did. That’s a costly way to kill time ! I went to Barnes and Noble for a while too and bought a book to add to my pile of books waiting to be read. Wow, that’s quite a stack of books, I better get reading them and and spend less time lurking in cyberspace.

a quiz for this morning…..

You are the Hanged Man

Self-sacrifice, Sacrifice, Devotion, Bound.

With the Hanged man there is often a sense of fatalism, waiting for something to happen. Or a fear ofloss from a situation, rather than gain.

The Hanged Man is perhaps the most fascinating card in the deck. It reflects the story of Odin who offered himself as a sacrifice in order to gain knowledge. Hanging from the world tree, wounded by a spear, given no bread or mead, he hung for nine days. On the last day, he saw on the ground runes that had fallen from the tree, understood their meaning, and, coming down, scooped them up for his own. All knowledge is to be found in these runes.

The Hanged Man, in similar fashion, is a card about suspension, not life or death. It signifies selflessness, sacrifice and prophecy. You make yourself vulnerable and in doing so, gain illumination. You see the world differently, with almost mystical insights.

some thoughts on "God’s Warriors" and "Battle Cry"

Filed under: Christ, Christian, Religion, thoughts — Tags: — dionysius @ 4:42 pm

I did not see the CNN special God’s Warriors and although some people in my church participate in Battle Cry events; I am not very familiar with it. Anyway, I do think the military imagery may not be the best way for Christians to express their faith. There is military imagery in the Bible but there is also plenty talk of peace, love, mercy etc.

Jesus came to us not as military conqueror, but as a helpless baby. He is Lord of Lords but also Prince of Peace. In his earthly ministry he said that the first shall be last and the last shall be first. He said the merciful are blessed and the meek will inherit the earth. He spoke of judgement based on compassion for the poor. He cautioned us that things we hate in others, we better look closely at ourselves because that which we hate in others is also part of our own self.

I won’t say military imagery is never appropriate but I do say that Christians need to be aware of and influenced by the likes of St. Francis, Mother Theresa, and MLK at least as much as they are by Battle Cry.

A final thought, if your religion inspires you to hate others, you have a very serious problem. This applies to any and all religions.

Peace be with you…

via email from LB…

Have you heard about the trucker who has painted his cab and trailer with the names of all those who lost their lives in 9/11? The trucker’s name is John Holmgren from Shafer, Minn. He has been ‘pulled over’ numerous times just so the troopers can get their picture taken with the truck…
