Overweight kids face irreversible damage to their bodies and a reduced risk of longevity

That’s what this article says about the dangers of obesity. Of course the dangers of obesity are very real; but what about the danger of bad sentence structure ? Shouldn’t that be “risk of reduced longevity” ? LOL !

image of the invisible God…

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; 16for in* him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers—all things have been created through him and for him. 17He himself is before all things, and in* him all things hold together.

Thanks to Caryn who sent me a really cool article about the Tree of Life. Here is a brief portion of the email along with some related linkage.

A couple of days ago I was running (I use that term very loosely) on my treadmill, watching a DVD sermon by Louie Giglio…and I was BLOWN AWAY! I want to share what I learned….but I fear not being able to convey it as well as I want. I will share anyway.

He (Louie) was talking about how inconceivably BIG our God is…how He spoke the universe into being…how He breathes stars out of His mouth that are huge raging balls of fire…etc. etc. Then He went on to speak of how this star-breathing, universe creating God ALSO knitted our human bodies together with amazing detail and wonder. At this point I am LOVING it (fascinating from a medical standpoint, you know.) …and I was remembering how I was constantly amazed during medical school as I learned more and more about God’s handiwork. I remember so many times thinking…’How can ANYONE deny that a Creator did all of this???’

Louie went on to talk about how we can trust that the God who created all this, also has the power to hold it all together when things seem to be falling apart…how our loving Creator is also our sustainer.

It’s interesting to note that the image of the molecule looks a lot like the Kabbalistic Tree of Life.

an account of my session with the dietitian…

I have been on my weight loss program for a month or so and today I had an appointment with the Dietitian. For the past couple weeks I have subjectively felt that I was a bit lighter and today I had partial confirmation of that. I say partial because the change was not that great and the weighing was not done on the same scale as before. Anyway, a month ago I was 246 lbs when I saw the Doc and today I was 241 lbs. So, I will take that as an encouraging sign…

a surprise that can kill you…

Filed under: medical, notes — Tags: — dionysius @ 11:58 am

I just saw on the TV news something about DVT; blood clots in your legs that can come loose and kill you ! Yikes ! I had never heard of it and apparently not many people have. Check out these web sites to learn more and don’t sit on your ass all day as lack of movement is one of the major factors involved: PreventDvt.Org: and Deep vein thrombosis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

OK, lunch time ! I shall go for walk and return later…

Today was a busy day, but I really did not make a lot of progress ! I went to get my blood drawn for labs, so that wasted about 2 hours. At work I did a lot of loose ends stuff but did not get a lot done otherwise. I gave some stuff to Heather to do, so that will help me some. There was lot’s of ice out today, hoping tomorrow will be nicer. Mike and Piglette came down for the weekend; they all went out shopping ! I told Sweetous and Pig to be careful in the stores ! LOL,  I always get uneasy when the women go to stores. So, now I’m just taking it easy listening to music and prowling the web…

Here is a nicely organized health & medical information site: OrganizedWisdom Health - Human Powered Health Search.

Cloudo - The Computer Evolved - this looks interesting, but doesn’t seem to be working yet; appears to be some sort of web desktop and applications set-up; sort of like think free or zoho perhaps ? It’s getting to be that you really don’t need to buy software for your computer because there is so much available via the web….

friday evening…

Filed under: at work, medical, notes — dionysius @ 9:29 pm

I was really really really busy at work today, but I did get a nice bunch of stuff done. One project took longer than expected and another was a surprise gotta do it now job, but all in all a good day. I was sooo busy I didn’t even surf the web or check my blog ’til after work ! Of course, I’m always busy and productive at work, even when I do get some surfing / blog time in.

I had this really dicey sickness earlier this past week, but I seem to be doing fine now. Those virus things hit hard and fast, but at least they generally don’t hang around too long. I’ll take a good slug of Nyquil later tonite to keep it all at bay.

The dogs were being rowdy in bed last night, so I’m hoping to sleep better tonight.

OK, now let’s dig up some eclectic linkage…

a quick note…

Filed under: at home, medical, notes — dionysius @ 10:21 am

Yesterday afternoon I was hit hard and fast by some sort of malevolent virus ! I stayed home today ’cause I am sick as the proverbial dog ! Just a well though, ’cause we had an ice storm last night and going to work would have been difficult.
