My first thought is that anarchy is chaos which of course would be antithetical to the teachings of Jesus and His Church. In my mind anarchy and Nihilism are synonymous. I envision people indulging in an orgy of libertine debauchery.
On the other hand the transgressions and depredations of governments are also well known.
The truth of the matter is that if everyone conducted their lives according to the example and teaching of Jesus Christ; anarchy would be the practical result because government would largely be irrelevant and chaos and Nihilism would be impossible. But that is a very big if indeed…

I am reading Amazon.com: Seven: The Deadly Sins and the Beatitudes: Jeff Cook: Books
In this book the author pairs each of the Deadly Sins with one of the Beatitudes. Chapter 6 contrasts wrath and being a peacemaker. The author describes how at the death of Jesus on the cross one of the Roman soldiers acknowledged that Jesus was the Son of God and that this was one of the titles claimed by Caeser. This illustrates the vast difference bewteen wrath and peacemaking. I had never noticed it before but the testimony of the soldier that Jeus was the Son of God; that is a very profound testimony especially considering the source.
Yesterday in Church one of the readings was the story about the Canaanite Woman found in Matthew 15 where a Canaanite Woman pleads with Jesus to heal her daughter. Jesus tells her that he was sent for the Jews and tells her it would not be right to give the children’s food to dogs ! She replies that even dogs are allowed to eat crumbs from the floor. Jesus is impressed with her faith and heals the daughter.
From the reading and the ensuing sermon I understood that we must be persistent in our faith but I was thinking that Jesus was being downright rude ! Of course I couldn’t leave it at that so this morning I did a search and found some articles to read… (More …)
Thanks to Caryn who sent me a really cool article about the Tree of Life. Here is a brief portion of the email along with some related linkage.
A couple of days ago I was running (I use that term very loosely) on my treadmill, watching a DVD sermon by Louie Giglio…and I was BLOWN AWAY! I want to share what I learned….but I fear not being able to convey it as well as I want. I will share anyway.
He (Louie) was talking about how inconceivably BIG our God is…how He spoke the universe into being…how He breathes stars out of His mouth that are huge raging balls of fire…etc. etc. Then He went on to speak of how this star-breathing, universe creating God ALSO knitted our human bodies together with amazing detail and wonder. At this point I am LOVING it (fascinating from a medical standpoint, you know.) …and I was remembering how I was constantly amazed during medical school as I learned more and more about God’s handiwork. I remember so many times thinking…’How can ANYONE deny that a Creator did all of this???’
Louie went on to talk about how we can trust that the God who created all this, also has the power to hold it all together when things seem to be falling apart…how our loving Creator is also our sustainer.
It’s interesting to note that the image of the molecule looks a lot like the Kabbalistic Tree of Life.

I found this quiz about the sayings of Jesus. There is a beginner, intermediate, and advanced level. I took the advanced and failed, got a 60% on the intermediate. At least I got a 100% on the beginner. I was a little surprised because I am fairly knowledgeable about the Bible, but apparently not as much as I thought. I shall have to read my Bible more ! Reading a post in Nancy’s blog this morning caused me to think about the Parable of the Rich Fool. This story that Jesus told is a dramatic illustration of the futility of devoting one’s life to the accumulation of wealth. So many people dissipate all their time and energy trying to get richer and richer and in the end have nothing to show for it.
This parable is also a good expression of my Eschatology. No one really knows when Christ will return or the world will end; nor do they really know the details of what will happen when it does happen. Of course many people have all sorts of elaborate theories about eschatology and the End Times. I believe that Christ will come again as promised but I do not attempt to figure out the details; but for practical purposes I believe that the “end” for each person is when they die. That is when they will meet up with God. No one knows when they will die, so we all should be prepared to meet God anytime and all the time. We should use our time and energy to love God and other people rather than trying to accumulate more and more stuff.
