Remember man, you are dust and to dust you shall return. Death is my constant companion and your’s too. I suppose that may sound melodramatic but think about it; it’s the plain truth.
So why am I contemplating my mortality today ? It’s still Christmas, not Ash Wednesday ! (More …)

The practicing of loving kindness toward one’s enemy is the ultimate test of one’s own spiritual attainment.
‘You have heard that it was said, “You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy.” But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven - Jesus in Matthew 5:43-47
No, ‘if your enemies are hungry, feed them; if they are thirsty, give them something to drink; for by doing this you will heap burning coals on their heads.’ - St. Paul in Romans 12:20

Just taking it easy tonight after a grueling day at the office; was busy and got a bunch of new stuff in. I will be working from home tomorrow. For this post I will feature links to a couple of pages from this blog….
notes on Isaiah 55 « lurking chihuahua A while back I recorded some of my own thoughts about one of my favorite Bible passages. May or may not be “theologically correct” I suppose that depends on what your particuler theological persuasion is. Thoughtful comments are welcomed and appreciated but I caution you that I don’t like to engage in arguments or flame wars…
For you History or nostalgia buffs out there I present a page full of pictures and links: artifacts of Baby Boomers… « lurking chihuahua Most of this stuff I have direct personal knowledge or experience; guess I am getting old ! LOL !

Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. 2For with the judgement you make you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. 3Why do you see the speck in your neighbour’s* eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye? 4Or how can you say to your neighbour,* “Let me take the speck out of your eye”, while the log is in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbour’s* eye.

My first thought is that anarchy is chaos which of course would be antithetical to the teachings of Jesus and His Church. In my mind anarchy and Nihilism are synonymous. I envision people indulging in an orgy of libertine debauchery.
On the other hand the transgressions and depredations of governments are also well known.
The truth of the matter is that if everyone conducted their lives according to the example and teaching of Jesus Christ; anarchy would be the practical result because government would largely be irrelevant and chaos and Nihilism would be impossible. But that is a very big if indeed…

The Road to Cana: Christ the Lord by Anne Rice
I bought this book over the weekend and started it today. I had been anticipating it since I read the first one in the series a year ago or so. Anne Rice does a wonderful job of fleshing out the story of Jesus.

‘So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today. — Jesus Christ as recorded in Matthew
I woke up this morning with feelings of high anxiety about financial matters and my overwhelming workload. Worrying will not do me any good though. These word from Jesus are easier said than done but He does indeed speak the truth. Even if my financial situation was terrible and my workload enormous; worrying about would not be a useful thing to do. On the bright side I can say that at least I am well off enough to have financial anxiety and when the economy is in the toilet: a large workload is a good thing !

Just finished, excellent book. I took too long reading it though. That’s something I need to work on: get a book finished rather than sitting on it. -

Now when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he* breathed his last, he said, ‘Truly this man was God’s Son!’ – from Mark 15:33-41 The Death of Jesus.
I am reading Amazon.com: Seven: The Deadly Sins and the Beatitudes: Jeff Cook: Books
In this book the author pairs each of the Deadly Sins with one of the Beatitudes. Chapter 6 contrasts wrath and being a peacemaker. The author describes how at the death of Jesus on the cross one of the Roman soldiers acknowledged that Jesus was the Son of God and that this was one of the titles claimed by Caeser. This illustrates the vast difference bewteen wrath and peacemaking. I had never noticed it before but the testimony of the soldier that Jeus was the Son of God; that is a very profound testimony especially considering the source.
